COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, is having widespread effects. Given recent events, Maskwacis Victim Services and its Advocates are striving to maintain core support and administrative operations while safeguarding public health and safety. Our actions have been, and will be, guided by the advice of public health authorities, Maskwacis Victim Services Board, and Local RCMP.
In particular, Home visits and Court operations have been significantly affected by the Premier of Alberta’s declaration on March 17th of a Public Health Emergency, by absenteeism due to self-isolation measures, child care issues and other circumstances and by the public’s need to ensure physical distancing, avoid public gatherings and stay home where possible.
Maskwacis Victim Services will still maintain services operating, Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, with rotating staff. Staff will complete follow up calls, wellness checks via telephone, and provide updated information through the website and on our Facebook page.
Maskwacis Victim Services staff and its Advocates will still be available at the request of Maskwacis RCMP and/or the family; such as, providing emotional support for Sudden Deaths. Maskwacis Victim Services will help suddenly bereaved people access information, advice and guidance to ease their suffering and help them cope with their grief.
Maskwacis Victim Services and its Advocates provide a listening ear, comfort and reassurance – and want you to know you are not alone.
